  1. 8 ounces palm oil
  2. 6 ounces coconut oil
  3. 2 ounces olive oil
  4. 1/4 cup oatmeal
  5. 2 ounces lye
  6. 8 fluid ounces water
  7. 1/4 ounce essential oil
  1. Pulse the oatmeal in a food processor until some of the flakes have been rendered smooth. Set aside.
  2. Heat the water to boiling and remove from heat.
  3. Pour the lye carefully into the water (never the other way around, as pouring water into lye can cause a sudden and dangerous reaction). Set aside to cool.
  4. Melt the palm and coconut oils together on the stove. Set aside to cool.
  5. Combine the olive oil and oatmeal in a blender.
  6. When the lye and water have reached 100 degrees and the oils have cooled to 120 degrees, pour the lye mixture into the oil. Stir well.
  7. Pour in the olive oil and oatmeal mixture, as well as any essential oil desired.
  8. Mix well and pour into molds.
  9. Cover the molds with plastic wrap and allow to set for 48 hours.
  10. Remove from molds and let cure for two to three weeks before using.
  1. To make a coarser bar, good for exfoliating, add some cornmeal as well, after stirring in the oatmeal mixture.
  2. Keep in mind that lye must be handled carefully, and used in a well-ventilated area.
